The Asthma and Allergy Center of Whatcom County is a medical specialty office serving residents of Whatcom and surrounding counties for over ten years. The full spectrum of services that fall within the expertise of the board certified Allergist-Immunologist are provided at the Asthma and Allergy Center. Our mission, as stated on the home page is to improve the quality of life of children and adults through the art and science of asthma and allergy care. A large part of our work is in consultative services, assisting and working with primary care and other medical providers in diagnosis and development of treatment plans for their patients. For privacy information, see Privacy Policy . We are contracted with, or accept most insurance plans active in Whatcom and surrounding counties. A brief call to the office is all that is needed if there are any questions about which plans that we work with. To ensure that services will be covered by a specific plan, we will ask about the insurance provider when appointments are made. Any questions regarding the details of insurance coverage can be answered by, or investigated by the front office personnel. Many plans include a co-pay which is the patient's responsibility. We request that this component of reimbursement be provided at the time of the visit. For those without insurance, we will request fifty percent of the payment for services at the time of the visit, and a payment plan arranged for the remainder if necessary. Many insurance providers operate through managed care plans that require a referral from the primary care provider before a patient can be seen. It is a good idea to learn about insurance plans and special requirements before changing plans or after switching. A new plan could require a referral before being seen by a specialist when an established, familiar plan did not. A referral, if required, will need to be received by the Asthma and Allergy Center before services are provided. We will work closely with patients and primary care providers to help ensure that referrals are in place in a timely fashion. When referrals are required, it is important for patients to understand the requirements of their specific plan.
